On November 1, 2011, section 1‐4 and 6‐16 of the Narcotics Safety and Awareness Act (NSAA) will come into effect. This legislation was introduced to support the development of a narcotics monitoring system as part of the Ministry of Health and Long‐term Care’s Narcotics Strategy. More information about the new requirements for physicians when prescribing monitored drugs is available here.
Work completed in 2010 will provide a solid foundation for medical self-regulation and patient safety in the years to come.

The College now has the authority to inspect out-of-hospital premises where procedures such as cosmetic surgery and endoscopy are performed using certain types of anesthesia. This marks the realization of the College’s Four-Point Patient Safety Plan.

Physicians licensed in other provinces or territories in Canada may apply for an equivalent certificate to practise in Ontario.
